Create a tiny web app in Ruby or PHP using a MySQL database to help us solve this problem:
We need to sell access to an eBook without revealing the hidden remote URL where the eBook is hosted. Instead we want to create a unique URL on our server each time we sell a book, and give that URL to the buyer. Our URL will track how many hits it gets, so we can disable any URL that gets shared or posted online.
So we'll have a URL like this:
http://www.ourbook.com/ebook/cgerw9f34789
and it'll forward to some other url like this:
http://www.ebook-publisher/book-fsd-vd
The URL we're forwarding to has an embedded flash file (the actual eBook), and we'll need to "forward" it as well so that it'll work without having the user get it directly from that server. You can cache it, or download it.
Come up with a way for us to create new URLs, given an order number and e-mail address. This should return a URL. It could be a shell script.
The MySQL table should look have columns like: id, url, email, order_id, hits
Count the number of times a unique URL is accessed.
