Overview

To develop a real-time Personal Buddy and vehicle GPS tracking web based application server.

System requirements

1. System shall be implemented in Windows NET/Silverlight/AJAX techno with Multi langage facilities.

2. System shall store relational data in MSSQL or MySQL database.

3. System shall be designed such that look-and-feel can be easily customized ie. template based.

4. System shall be designed such that mapping service (eg Microsoft Virtual map) can be easily replaced.
The default mapping service shall be Google maps during development phase.

5. System shall be designed such that adapter modules to handle different type of GPS clients.

System description

The system shall consists of an administrator and users. Administrator is used by the system owner for maintaining the system.
Users can sign up via the system and add GPS devices under their account. Upon registration, compatible devices/clients can be added by the User to send tracking information to the server.

Personal Buddy Tracking is a community based approach to tracking where every user is in control of his own information. Users can create and join groups where they share their position privately or publicly, follow their friends in a web browser and record and review their track history. A user is always in control of if and how his position is shared.

Groups can be created by any user, and can be set as Private or Public. In private groups members are visible only to other members in that group. In public groups the positions of all the members are publicly available. Users can be members in several groups simultaneously.

Vehicle Tracking functionality includes real-time tracking of multiple vehicles, on screen track history viewing, vehicle history reporting and data exports in KML and CSV formats for further processing.

The system shall support Different protocol for trackers such as:
- GPS enabled smartphones (PocketPC, Symbian)
- GPS/GPRS Trackers (from FlexTrack, GlobalSat, NavIP, Sanav, StarsNav, etc.)


There should be well documented server-side API such that module can be developed for different clients.
