We are looking for a developer who will port an existing software utility , written in QBasic (DOS) to Windows application (32-bit) using VB .Net (2005). We will provide the source code (approx. 3000 lines), but there is no other documentation for the software.
The utility communicates with an instrument over serial port, sends (hard-coded) commands and receives (limited amount of) data.
The ultimate requirement is to retain existing functionality of the software, with some minor modifications and improvements after getting the fundamental parts to work.
Functionality of the software is divided into five, separate clearly defined tasks, which can be run one by one or all in one go.
PLEASE NOTE that this project is HARDWARE RELATED and will require substantial effort at testing and commision stage!
User interface is (and should stay) minimal (one form, which will be provided) consisting of basically few text boxes for input parameters, and few command buttons for selecting which tests to run. This project requires creation of a custom "gauge like" (thermometer style) control.
